Bobs Tuesday, look back at our local history.
Bobs Tuesday, look back at our local history.
By Bob Alvis
In 1890 Lancaster constructed its first Elementary school on what would become the corner of Lancaster Blvd and Beech Street. Back in the early 1990s I was working on a job behind the old Lancaster Radio building when another contractor was working on the parking lot and he came across a bunch of old bricks buried under the old asphalt. At the time we both figured they belonged to an old long-gone business but sometime later after seeing pictures of the old school I realized those bricks we found probably came from that old 1890’s school building when it was torn down, it was in the same location as the old school house!
Wish I could have kept a couple for what became our local museum at the Fairgrounds. Nowadays I find it hard to throw away anything I find history walking!
Peace my Friends!
