CHESBORO RD / SR-138 — POSSIBLE VEHICLE INTO AQUEDUCT
At approximately 12:27 a.m., CHP and LACoFD responded to Cheseboro Rd and SR-138 after California Water Resources security discovered a damaged gate, tire tracks, and signs indicating a possible vehicle may have gone into the California Aqueduct.
According to radio traffic, security personnel located tire marks leading into the canal and requested CHP and fire resources to investigate further. Search efforts included requests for air support and Search & Rescue due to concerns a submerged vehicle may be in the water.
Officials advised the aqueduct is approximately 300 feet across, making visibility difficult during overnight operations. Security personnel reportedly did not observe a vehicle submerge, but stated the fence damage may have occurred several hours earlier.
The incident was later reclassified by CHP as a traffic collision investigation and then temporarily listed as a possible stolen vehicle abandonment before being switched back to a collision investigation.
As of the latest update, authorities continued keeping the call open for further monitoring and investigation.
