CHP Antelope Valley Investigates Fatal DUI-Related Traffic Crash
On September 22, 2025, at approximately 6:50 P.M., California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers from the Antelope Valley Area responded to a multi-vehicle traffic crash at the intersection of 90th Street East and Palmdale Boulevard.
Preliminary investigation determined a maroon Kia Sorento, driven by 47-year-old M. Monroy of Palmdale, was traveling southbound on 90th Street East at a high rate of speed. Monroy failed to stop for a red light at the intersection and entered the path of a gray Infiniti G35 traveling eastbound on Palmdale Boulevard. The vehicles collided and the impact caused the Infiniti to spin out of control and crash into a white Chevrolet Avalanche that was stopped for the red light.
Tragically, the driver of the Infiniti, 18-year-old S. Ortega of Littlerock, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Monroy sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. A juvenile female passenger in the Chevrolet sustained minor injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet, 69-year-old G. Martinez of Lancaster, was not injured.
Monroy was arrested for driving under the influence, and impairment is considered a contributing factor in this crash.
Next of kin has been notified. For information regarding the deceased, please contact the Los Angeles County Coroner鈥檚 Office at (323) 343-0512.
