From Lancaster Police Department
At approximately 2125 hours, Officer Siddiqi was conducting proactive traffic enforcement on the Antelope Valley Freeway (14 Freeway) and Avenue K when he observed a black Honda traveling northbound at an extremely high rate of speed while weaving in and out of traffic lanes. Officer Siddiqi used LIDAR to confirm the vehicle was traveling at 116 mph.
The driver eventually yielded to the officer in the parking lot of the Home Depot located on 20th Street West. The driver was cited and released for violations of California Vehicle Code sections 23103(a) (reckless driving) and 22348(a) (exceeding the maximum speed limit). The vehicle was subsequently impounded for 30 days.
The Lancaster Police Department would like to remind the public that excessive speed and reckless driving significantly increase the risk of serious and fatal traffic collisions, endangering not only the driver but also passengers and other motorists sharing the roadway. The Lancaster Police Department remains committed to proactive traffic enforcement and encourages all motorists to obey posted speed limits, drive responsibly, and remain attentive to surrounding traffic conditions. Making safe driving decisions helps protect everyone who uses our roadways.
Getting to your destination safely is always more important than getting there a few minutes sooner.
