Juvenile Gang Member Arrested, Multiple Firearms Recovered
SCV Sheriff's Juvenile and Gang (JAG) Team detectives continue proactive efforts to keep SCV safe through directed patrols targeting juvenile crime and gang-related activity.
Recently while conducting a specialized patrol in the 23700 block of Via Canon in Newhall, JAG detectives observed a male juvenile they recognized as a known local gang member inhaling from a balloon. When they attempted to contact the juvenile regarding a potential nitrous oxide violation, he attempted to flee on foot but ultimately was detained without incident.
During the detention, deputies discovered the juvenile was in possession of a loaded handgun with an obliterated serial number. Based on additional investigative information, detectives obtained and served a search warrant at the juvenile鈥檚 residence, where two additional firearms were located inside the juvenile鈥檚 bedroom.
The 16-year-old Newhall resident was arrested on five felony charges, including minor in possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, gang member in possession of a firearm, and participation in a criminal street gang. He was additionally charged with one misdemeanor count of possession of ammunition.
Our JAG Team will continue working to stop crime before it happens and keep SCV safe! 馃挭
