Search for Missing Pair Ends in Tragedy on Mt. Emma Road
What began as a desperate search by family members ended in heartbreak Sunday when authorities confirmed the discovery of two bodies inside a vehicle that had vanished nearly a week earlier.
The white Toyota Corolla, last seen on August 18 with two people inside, was spotted down a ravine off Mt. Emma Road. A parent searching for their missing child first noticed the car, then called authorities.
Firefighters from Station 80 rappelled roughly 75 feet down the steep embankment and confirmed the tragic outcome: both occupants of the Corolla had died. The license plate matched the one circulated by family members in recent days.
Nearby, responders also found a second vehicle, a Toyota Highlander, in the same vicinity. The relationship between the two crashes is not yet clear. CHP has closed a stretch of Mt. Emma Road between 47th Street East and Angeles Forest Highway while investigators work to determine what happened.
The names of the deceased have not yet been released.
