The California Board of Parole recently found convicted robber and third strike...

The California Board of Parole recently found convicted robber and third strike offender, Jamal White, unsuitable for parole. Representing the District Attorney’s Office and requesting the denial was Deputy DA Gina Nargie.

On December 26, 2001, a female victim called 9-1-1 to report that two men broke into her home on Stine Road in Bakersfield and tried to rob her. While the female victim was on the phone with the 9-1-1 operator, her boyfriend took over the call and identified one of the robbers as “Jamal White.” The male identified the second robber and gave a vehicle description. Law enforcement immediately responded. The female victim told officers that one male forced his way inside the apartment, while the other male stood by the door. White held the female at gunpoint in front of her two young children. The men ultimately got away with food stamps.

While law enforcement was investigating this incident, another armed robbery was reported at the Havana House on Stockdale Blvd in Bakersfield, CA. Ultimately, White was tied to both robberies that same day.

On April 25, 2002, White pled guilty to one count of robbery in the first degree. In addition to his plea, he admitted he had previously been convicted of two prior strike offenses for robbery in Los Angeles County. A Kern County Judge sentenced White to 25 years to life in prison.

White has served approximately 24 years of his 25-year-to-life sentence. At the Parole Hearing, White’s commissioners focused on his approximately 39 rules violations in prison that were violence related, his gang activity, and substance abuse history. Ultimately, he was issued a seven-year denial.

DA Zimmer commented; “A seven-year parole denial is highly significant. It reflects the Parole Board’s recognition of both the seriousness of White’s crimes and his lack of rehabilitation while in custody. We are very pleased with the ruling of this parole hearing.”
