The Defensible Space Program is a joint effort between the #LACoFD and the #LACounty Agricultural Commissioner/Weights & Measures. On Tuesday, January 13, 2026, the LA County Board of Supervisors passed the annual resolution allowing for the unified enforcement in declaring both improved and unimproved properties a public nuisance, and where necessary, requiring the clearance of hazardous vegetation. These measures create “Defensible Space” for effective fire protection of lives, property, and the environment.
As part of the resolution, referee hearings have been scheduled to allow owners to contest whether their property is in a fire hazard severity zone and should therefore receive an inspection. Owners may also discuss defensible space requirements.
