This Memorial Day Weekend, the CHP’s Holiday Enforcement Period runs from Friday, May 22 at 6:00 p.m. through Monday, May 25 at 11:59 p.m. Officers will be on patrol statewide looking for reckless and impaired drivers while promoting seat belt safety.

Last Memorial Day weekend, CHP officers made over 1,100 DUI arrests statewide and investigated 22 fatal crashes. Tragically, many of those killed were not wearing seat belts.

CHP officers recently contacted four juveniles, ages 14, 15, 15, and 16, riding pocket bikes on Angeles Forest Highway. The group was attempting to make the trip from Palmdale to the San Fernando Valley. While we can appreciate the sense of adventure, pocket bikes are not street legal and operating them on a public roadway creates a serious safety risk—especially on a highway where motorists may be traveling at significantly higher speeds. All four juveniles were cited and the pocket bikes were impounded. Parents and caregivers, please take a moment to talk with young riders about where these vehicles can legally and safely be operated. The operation began just after 1 a.m., with multiple Sheriff’s units in the area. At this time, it is unknown what the warrant was related to or who authorities were seeking.
