Critical Incident Release- 15th Street West, Rosamond, CA

On August 3, 2026, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Kern County Sheriff’s Office deputies assigned to the Rosamond substation responded to the Desert Oasis Mobile Estates in 3300 block of 15th St West in Rosamond, CA for a peace disturbance. Shortly after arrival the responding deputy was confronted by the suspect, Joshua Dribin, age 22, who was armed with a sword. An officer involved shooting occurred.

Joshua Dribin was treated for his injuries by deputies on scene and transported by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of his non-life-threatening injuries.

Dribin was arrested and charged with: PC 245(c) Assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer PC 69 Resisting a peace office using force PC 417.8 Exhibiting a deadly weapon at peace officer to resist arrest PC 148(a)(1) Resisting, obstructing, delaying a peace officer in the performance of their duties

No deputies or additional civilians were injured in the officer involved shooting.

KCSO Homicide Detectives responded to the scene to assume the investigation.

Kern County Sheriff's Office detectives investigate any use of deadly force by any member of the department. Investigations are submitted to the Kern County District Attorney's Office for criminal review.

On September 3, 2026, the Kern County Sheriff’s Office convened an Incident Review Board examining the use of force in this incident. The use of force in this incident was determined to be within policy.
